The following series of paintings is titled `Idir` which is the Irish word for 'between'. Each work consists of four paintings and each one depicts a representation of a landscape or of a building. The mood reflected in each piece is one of quietness. They are all devoid of human presence. When you examine the places represented however – playing fields, golf greens, fields, car parks and so on, you realise that such places are centres of human activity. But they are depicted here in time between (idir) such activities. Thus they become metaphors for either loss – what has been, or expectation - of future events. The postcard was a great triumph of the combination of photography and reproduction technology. A further layer of this work explores the relationship between such technology and the individual artwork.
